Meet the Mosodi team presenting at Making Active Places in Manchester
How can we bridge the gap between train operating companies and local authorities so that policy and plans align and deliver integrated sustainable transport systems? Come and talk to the Mosodi team at Active Travel England’s Making Active Places Conference, at Aviva Studios in Manchester this 22nd and 23rd September.
Government’s new planning rules strengthen the focus that railway stations can play in delivering housing and economic growth whilst supporting sustainable travel. Since 2025 we have been working in partnership with Northern Trains to provide strategic and operational insight to support improvements in travel choice, journey experience and local connectivity around railway stations. Building on our strong experience of appraising and designing sustainable travel solution, our work brings together local authorities and rail operators to deliver policy-aligned solutions for enhancing rates of active travel to and from stations. To achieve this, we have developed a unique assessment framework to provide data-driven insights from over 70 English railway stations that identify practical improvements for walking, wheeling, and cycling which helps organisations together move from evidence to action.

Maxine Gregory, our Head of Research will be presenting the work we have delivered in partnership with Northern Trains on the second day of the conference. This will be part of the ‘Common Ground: Working Across Organisations to Build Healthier Places’ presentation at the Lab between 1.15pm and 2.30pm on 23rd September.
From cycle parking and wayfinding to interchange design, safety and placemaking, we’ll showcase real examples of what’s good, where the gaps remain, and how organisations can together move from evidence to action.
Participants will leave with ideas on how we can prioritise interventions, reduce silo working in localities and deliver more active, connected and people-centred stations.
