Health Innovation Neighbourhood, Newcastle GSS Architecture on behalf of Newcastle University

Mosodi played a key role in supporting the transformative Health Innovation Neighbourhood development in Newcastle—an ambitious and large-scale regeneration project with national significance. Appointed for their expertise in sustainable transport strategy, Mosodi delivered a comprehensive package of work including Transport Assessments and Statements, alongside detailed Accessibility Mapping.

Background

Given the significant scale of the proposed development, National Highways expressed a clear requirement for substantial improvements to the strategic highway network. Mosodi was brought on board to navigate this complex challenge and ensure that the transport strategy aligned with both regional growth aspirations and national infrastructure priorities. Our team applied the “decide and provide” methodology, focusing on future transport needs driven by sustainability rather than simply accommodating historic travel demand.

Outcomes

Through close collaboration with key stakeholders, Mosodi successfully demonstrated that sustainable travel enhancements, rather than traditional highway expansion, offered the best value solution for long-term mobility and investment. The resulting strategy gained support from National Highways, enabling the project to move forward with a transport plan centered on accessibility, active travel, and public transport improvements. Our work ensured a balanced and future-proofed approach to connectivity within this landmark development.
