1dayaweek, Nationwide NHS sites, Bradford Council, Tameside Council, Harworth

The 1dayaweek campaign is a sustainability initiative designed to reduce car use by encouraging people to choose walking, cycling, or public transport for just one day each week. This small change helps cut carbon emissions, improve air quality, and reduce congestion while also promoting healthier lifestyles.

Background

By partnering with local communities, businesses, and policymakers, the campaign encourages small, consistent changes to drive long-term sustainable behavioural shifts. The 1dayaweek campaign has made a measurable difference in promoting sustainable transport choices across NHS sites, Bradford, Tameside and 12 mixed use sites.

Outcomes

Since the launch of 1dayaweek, we have successfully engaged thousands of participants, leading to a reduction in single-occupancy car trips and increased adoption of active travel modes. The campaign has also helped businesses develop greener travel policies, contributed to lower carbon footprints, and improved air quality in urban areas. Find out more here.
